Student-Athlete of the Week
Dec. 14, 2010
Emmanuel College's Student-Athletes of the Week is Andrew Heath (Stanford, Conn.). Heath is a senior on the Saints Indoor Track & Field Team. He has been a three-sport athlete in his time at Emmanuel, as he also competes on the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team and played for the Saints Men's Basketball Team last year.
The 2010-11 Indoor Track season is underway and the Saints have competed in two meets so far this season. In the team's opening meet on December 4th, Heath ran a personal best time in the 400 meters. His time of 52.01 ranks him the 12th fastest in New England in that event.
More recently, Heath was a part of two record-setting and New England Division III Championship qualifying performances on December 11th at the Harvard University Open. Individually, Heath set a new school record and qualified for New Englands in the 500 meters with a time of 1:08.60.
He also teamed up with three other individuals (Nicholas Brooks, Wesley Cowles and Ben Cleveland) to set a program record and qualify in the 4x400 meter relay. Heath ran the lead-off leg of the race and helped the team to a 10th place finish in a time of 3:30.77. This Emmanuel relay team is currently ranked 3rd in New England and 16th in the nation among NCAA Division III competitors.
Heath and the Saints will return to action on January 23rd at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard University.
