2007-2008 Indoor Track & Field Season in Review
June 1, 2008
The Emmanuel College Indoor Track & Field Teams had a great season in 2007-08. The men's and women's teams competed in eight meets during the winter season, including the New England Division III Championship. The season was marked by several amazing individual performances. Many of the Emmanuel athletes set program records in their respective events.
Junior Cathryn Lariviere (Windham, NH) set three Emmanuel College records, including the mark for the 1000 meters (3:21.59), 1 mile (5:36.12), and 3000 meters (11:08.66). Sophomore leaper Sarah Soldano (Bethel, CT) performed well all season and set program records in both the long jump (15'7.75") and the high jump (5'1"). The women's relay team, consisting of senior Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI), freshman Alison Lynch (Pawtucket, RI), junior Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA), and Cathryn Lariviere, set records in the 4 x 800 meters (11:23.58) and in the women's distance medley relay (14:21.82).
On the men's side, senior captain Matt Hickey (North Attleboro, MA) ran a 2:04.17 - 800 meter race at the MIT Co-ed Invitational, setting a program record in the event. Rookie Alex Lucier (Northbridge, MA) set Emmanuel's record in the high jump, with a 5'8.75" leap on February 10th, at the Smith College Invitational. The relay team of senior Michael Thurnauer (Reading, MA), sophomore Rob Littleton (Plymouth, MA), Alex Lucier, and sophomore Kevin Ly (Portland, ME) ran the men's 4 x 200 meters in 1:40.09, also setting a new Emmanuel College record.
Head Coach Tony DaRocha and Assistant Coach Alice Kramer will lose seven seniors (5 men and 2 women) to graduation this May. DaRocha should return 11 men and 21 women as veterans for the 2008-09 team. The coaches, who will enter their 8th seasons with the program, will also look to add several solid incoming freshmen recruits to the squad for the 2008-09 season.
