BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams kicked off the 2011-12 season at the Jay Carsella Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The meet was hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. The junior/senior tandem of Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) and Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, Calif.) led Emmanuel, by opening up the indoor season with performances that qualified them for the Division III New England Championships.
Young not only qualified for the New England Championships, but also set a new program record with her time in the 800 meter run. The junior raced to an 11th place finish with a personal best time of 2:28.81. Kulubya placed 6th in the 400 meter dash and was the first Division III student-athlete to cross the finish line, sprinting to a time of 61.83.
