TRACK & FIELD TEAMS RUN DOWN RECORDS AT USM INVITATIONAL

GORHAM, Me. - The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams posted impressive individual and team performances on Saturday, competing in the University of Southern Maine Invitational. The Emmanuel men's team finished 2nd out of eight participating teams, while the Emmanuel women placed 7th out of the 10 competing schools. Emmanuel athletes qualified for the Division III New England Championships in four different events, and set four new Emmanuel school records this weekend.
Coming off his qualifying performance last weekend, rookie sprinter Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) raced to a win in the 400m. His time of 51.09 was almost a one second improvement on his Division III New England qualifying time. Julien added to his day, when he notched a 2nd place finish in the 200m with a time of 23.63. Sophomore transfer Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.), competing in just his second meet as a Saint, ran down a 3rd place finish with his personal best time of 54.73 in the 400m.
Sophomore Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) also picked up a win in his event, sprinting to a 1st place time of 1:58.74 in the 800m. Bruno's time qualified him for the New Englands in his 3rd event this season, as he has already qualified in the 400m and the 600m.
Senior Wesley Cowles (Hebron, Conn.) and junior Yun-Ting Lee (Cambridge, Mass.) were the Saints' lone male and female competitors in the 600m. Cowles placed 2nd with a time of 1:29.84, while Lee ran a PR time of 2:00.67 in her race.
Freshman Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) and senior captain Jordan Coulombe (Saco, Me.) led Emmanuel in the 55m hurdles with 3rd and 4th place finishes, respectively. Thomas' time of 8.92 was a personal best for the rookie. Coulombe raced in at 8:95 for 4th place in the event.
Senior Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, Calif.) and sophomore Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) ran strong in the women's 400m. Kulubya placed 4th with a time of 61.63. Metivier ran her PR time of 63.49 to come in 6th place. Sophomore Nyeem Cameron (Mattapan, Mass.) came in at 7.11, snagging 7th place in the men's 55m sprint.
Junior Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) picked up 4th place in the women's 800m with her time of 2:29.66. Both Danielle Martin (York, Me.) and Meaghan Reddy (Warwick, R.I.) ran down their personal bests in the 3k with times of 12:01.57 and 13:23.17, respectively. Senior captain Abdi Ibrahim (East Boston, Mass.) recorded a 5th place performance on the men's side, running a 3k time of 9:41.52.
Junior Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) placed 5th in the women's 200m with a time of 27.72. After David Allen's (Hull, Mass.) 7th place performance in the men's 200m, the sophomore teamed up with Bruno, Cowles, and Julien for a relay win in the men's 4 x 400m. The team came in at 3:33.29 to improve on their New England qualifying time. The women's 4 x 400m squad, consisting of Kulubya, Metivier, Victoria and Young, placed 3rd overall in a time of 4:16.90.
The Saints also posted an extremely impressive day in the field events as well. Freshman Sam Ferraro (Southwick, Mass.) led Emmanuel in both of his events. He jumped a personal best height of 6'0", which placed him 4th overall and broke the Emmanuel school record. Ferraro then went on to win the long jump with his personal best leap of 19'9.50', posting the Saints' only field win of the day. Sophomore Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) came in 3rd in the long jump with a distance of 19'0.50".
Kaitlyn Murphy (Ludlow, Mass.) hit her personal best in the long jump with a 14'9.25" jump. She then took to the triple jump with determination to qualify for the Division III New Englands. The sophomore did just that, when she placed 3rd overall with a personal best and school record jump of 34'0".
Senior captain Gregory Brown (Norton, Mass.) also had a huge day in his field events, posting two personal best performances. Brown heaved the weight throw a school record distance of 34'10.50". He went on to nab his PR in the shot put with a throw of 33'3".
Two Emmanuel athletes competed in the Boston University Terrier Classic on Friday evening. Senior Shannon McCabe (Charlestown, R.I.) broke the Emmanuel record in the 60m hurdles with her PR time of 10.17. Junior Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) ran a 5:54.11 mile at BU.
The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Indoor Teams will compete again next Saturday, February 4th, in the Tufts University Invitational.
