BROOKS, PANGONIS LEAD SAINTS INTO NEW ENGLANDS
BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel senior Chloe Pangonis broke her own school record in the 800m run as the Saints' indoor track & field teams competed at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine's Invitational over the weekend.
BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel senior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) broke her own school record in the 800m run as the Saints' indoor track & field teams competed at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine's Invitational over the weekend.
WOMEN'S
Pangonis ran the 800m race in 2:26.41, breaking the school record that she had set two weeks earlier at the Southern Maine Invitational. That record was set with a time of 2:27.28.
Junior Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) was the only other Saint to post a DIII New Englands qualifying score/time as she cleared 5'1" in the high jump.
Sophomores Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Marissa LaFay (Tabernacle, N.J.) competed in the 800m run with Pangonis and each set a new personal best with resepctive times of 2:31.44 and 2:54.78.
Junior Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) posted two more personal bests with her performances in the 400m dash (63.17) and the 200m dash (27.57).
Freshman Taylor Graboski (Watertown, Conn.) ran the 200m dash with Fraccalossi and also ran a personal best, crossing the finish line in 29.93 seconds.
Two Saints, freshman Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) and sophomore Emily Knowlton (Grafton, Mass.), ran in the 500m event, and both set personal records in the race. Boyle posted a time of 1:24.36 while Knowlton ran a 1:40.35.
Senior captain Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) led the way for the Saints in the mile run, as she finished in 5:53.45, good for a new personal best.
Rounding out the effort on the women's side, freshman Mimi Duncan (Portsmouth, N.H.) ran her career best of 3:25.79 in the 1000m run.
MEN'S
While no men's competitors qualified for DIII New Englands, seven Saints posted new personal bests in their events at the Valentine's meet.
Sophomore Boston native, Francisco Tavares set personal records in both of his events at this weekend's meet, running the 400m dash in 51.11 seconds and the 200m dash in 23.14 seconds.
Senior Zachary Bohn (Acushnet, Mass.) also ran the 200m dash and set a new personal best time of 27.00 seconds.
Fellow senior, and Acushnet native, Corey Hebert ran the 800m race in 2:07.19 for a new PB, while junior Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) ran the mile run in a personal best time of 4:35.77.
Freshman Brandon Fitzpatrick (Tewksbury, Mass.) continued to improve as he set a personal record in the 1000m run (3:16.90). Fellow frosh Daniel Lachance (Raynham, Mass.) ran the 60m dash in 8.85 seconds, which is the fastest he's even run the event.
NEXT UP
The Saints that individually qualified in their respective events will compete at the New England D-III Championships this weekend.
The following Saints have qualified for at least one event at the regional meet: Ashley Brooks, Chloe Pangonis, Nicole Varca, Zoe Pierce-Dickens, Sara Ciochetti, Mellyn Costello, Michaela Fraccalossi, and Reilly Boyle.
The women's qualifiers will compete at Middlebury College on Saturday, Feb. 20.
