RELAY TEAMS LEAD THE WAY AT WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL
BOSTON, Mass. - Both the men's and women's 4x800m relay teams took third place in their respective events to highlight Emmanuel College's indoor track & field afternoon at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.
BOSTON, Mass. - Both the men's and women's 4x800m relay teams took third place in their respective events to highlight Emmanuel College's indoor track & field afternoon at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Chloe Pangonis, freshman Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine), sophomore Nicole Varca, and senior Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) posted a 4x800m relay time of 10:45.43 and earned third place in the event.
Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) and Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) also performed well in the women's 600m run, earning two of the top seven spots. Varca was fifth to cross the line with a time of 1:46.89, while Pangonis was not far behind, taking seventh in a personal best time of 1:48.00.
Senior captain Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) ran the fastest 3000m run of her career, crossing the line in 11:45.05 and earning fifth place.
Freshman Mimi Duncan (Porstmouth, N.H.) grabbed eighth place overall in the mile run as she was one of nine competitors to break the six-minute mark (5:57.73).
Juniors Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.) and Katherine Zombik (Holyoke, Mass.) both ran personal bests in the 60m dash. Costello, 8.48 seconds, edged out her teammate by less than a second as Zombik finished in 9.26. Costello also competed in the finals of the 60m hurdles and placed eighth (10.41s).
Freshman Devan Phillips' (North Kingstown, R.I.) jump of 1.40m was good enough for eighth place overall.
Freshman Alicia Barry (Hingham, Mass.), junior Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.), and sophomore Jacqueline Mosko (Woburn, Mass.) all posted personal bests in their respective events as well.
Seniors Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) and Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.), junior Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.), and freshman Jefferson Zannoni (Merrimack, N.H.) put together a third-place finish for the Saints in the 4x800m relay event. The group combined to finish the race in 8:56.27.
Sophomore Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.) also led the way for EC, as his personal best of 52.45 seconds was good enough for third place overall in the 400m dash.
Chamenko stepped up in the mile run, taking seventh place overall in 4:47.57.
Junior Cameron Anderson (Watertown, Mass.), fresh off of his record-setting performance last week, earned the sixth spot in the shotput with a toss of 40' 9.25".
Freshman Daniel Lachance (Raynham, Mass.) ran his fastest 60m dash of his career, crossing the line in 9.06 seconds.
Both teams will return to the track at Boston University this coming weekend as they will compete at the BU David Hemery Valentine's Classic. The women will go to work on Friday, February 12 at 1:30 p.m. while the men's squad will compete on Saturday, February 13 at 10:30 a.m.
