INDOOR TRACK & FIELD BATTLES AT TUFTS INVITATIONAL
BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field squads returned to action at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, January 16. The Saints had multiple athletes perform well as they came off of the extended winter break.
BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field squads returned to action at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, January 16. The Saints had multiple athletes perform well as they came off of the extended winter break.
Junior Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) provided the major highlight for the Saints as her high jump of 5'0" was good enough to qualify for the DIII New England Championship meet.
Freshman Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) and senior Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) both posted personal bests in the 600m as Boyle ran it in 1:48.63 and Hebert finished in 1:31.78.
Freshman distance runner Brandon Fitzpatrick (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted his career-best in the 1000m as he crossed the line in 3:30.52. Fellow frosh Cara Corey (Readfield, Maine) also had a personal-best in her event, the 200m sprint. She finished the sprint in 32.33.
Freshman long jumper Devan Phillips (North Kingston, R.I.) jumped 12'2.25", which is a career-best jump.
The Saints had two athletes post career-bests in the weight throw. Sophomore Stephanie Jarvis (Lenox, Mass.) and freshman Katherine Gilmore (Fairhaven, Mass.) both threw further than they ever had as Jarvis reached 23'0" and Gilmore hit the 19'3.50" mark. Gilmore also saw a personal-best score in the shot put, as she reached 18'9.75" with her toss.
Emmanuel returns to action on Saturday, January 23 at the Smith College Benyon Invitational in Northampton, Mass. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
