INDOOR TRACK & FIELD OPENS AT UMASS BOSTON INVITATIONAL
BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Indoor Track & Field squad opened the 2015-16 season on Saturday afternoon at the 4th Annual UMass Boston Invitational held at the Reggie Lewis Center. The Saints had several personal bests in a competitive meet featuring collegiate competitors from the Division I, II and III level.
BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Indoor Track & Field squad opened the 2015-16 season on Saturday afternoon at the 4th Annual UMass Boston Invitational held at the Reggie Lewis Center. The Saints had several personal bests in a competitive meet featuring collegiate competitors from the Division I, II and III level.
In the women's field, senior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) ran a personal best in the 800m race clocking in a time of 2:29.91 for a fourth place finish in the event. Sophomore Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) also PR'ed in the event with a 10th place finish and a time of 2:36.68. Varca also had a PR in the long jump with a leap of 15'2.75''.
Freshman Mimi Duncan (Portsmouth, N.H.) made her collegiate indoor debut with a strong showing in the 3K race with a time of 11:40.90 for a seventh place finish. Freshman Devan Philips (North Kingston, R.I.) performed well in the high jump with a leap of 4'9'', topping her high school PR.
In her collegiate debut, freshman Cara Welsh (Shrewsbury, Mass.) competed in the shot put and weight throw. Welsh tallied a toss of 28'5 in the shot put and a toss of 20'2.5'' in the weight throw.
On the men's side, junior Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) ran well in the 5K race, recording a PR time of 16:28.89 for a 14th place finish overall and fifth in the event among D-III competitors.
Seniors Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) and Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) ran strong times in the 1 mile race as Tallo clocked a 4:48.83 showing followed by a PR from Schoaf at 4:55.02.
Freshman Jake Zannoni (Merrimack, N.H.) ran a sub three-minute 1000m, clocking in at 2:56.36 in the race while Schoaf wasn't far behind with a time of 3:00.32.
Sophomore Constantino Politis (Saugus, Mass.) registered PR's in the shot put and weight throw with toss of 32'7'' and 29'1'', respectively.
Emmanuel returns to action next weekend when they return to the Reggie Lewis Center for the Northeastern Carisella Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12 beginning at 4:00 PM.
