QUALIFIERS SHINE AT NEW ENGLAND DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIPS
NORTHAMPTON, SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Seventeen Emmanuel College athletes, including nine women and eight men, qualified for and competed in the New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon. The women’s championship was hosted by Smith College, while the men’s championship was held at Springfield College.

Sophomore Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.) boasted another standout performance in her women's 60mH event. Costello busted through her own program-record again with a time of 9.70 and finished 16th overall among New England's top Division III athletes.
Junior Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) sprinted to a 62.16 finish in the women's 400m. Her time placed Pierce-Dickens 26th overall.
Also competing in her individual field event was sophomore Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.), who placed in a tie for 10th in the high jump. Brooks' highest jump on the day was 4'11" and her 10th place finish just missed All-New England criteria (top-eight).
Costello and Pierce-Dickens teamed up with rookie Sara Ciochetti (Watertown, Conn.) and sophomore Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) for the women's 4x200m relay. The team crossed the line in 1:52.45 to place 17th overall.
The Emmanuel women's 4x800m relay team notched a 16th place finish with their combined time of 10:12.42. The team included junior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.), senior captain Chloe Egan (Brulington, Vt.), freshman Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) and senior Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.).
Emmanuel men's team captain Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) snagged 10th place overall in his 400m race. Julien's time of 51.27 just missed on All-New England honors.
Julien later teamed up with fellow co-captain Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.), along with freshmen Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.) and Brian Uram (Westford, Mass.) for the men's 4400m relay. The squad tore up the track in 3:29.43 to finish 9th overall, boasting Emmanuel's top finish on the day and another near-miss on All-New England honors.
The Emmanuel men's 4x800m relay team included junior Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), sophomore Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) and juniors Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.). The team raced to an 18th place finish in a time of 8:40.97.
On March 6th, both Brooks and Julien will head to the Armory in New York City for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. Brooks has qualified for the ECACs in the women's high jump, while Julien has qualified and will compete in the men's 400m.
