TRACK & FIELD RACES AT SOUTHERN MAINE INVITE
GORHAM, Maine – The Saints Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams competed Saturday afternoon in the University of Southern Maine Invitational. The Emmanuel women’s team finished 7th out of 10 competing programs, while the EC men took 8th out of nine. The Saints turned in 14 podium performances on the day, including six top-three finishes and one Division III New England qualifier.
GORHAM, Maine – The Saints Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams competed Saturday afternoon in the University of Southern Maine Invitational. The Emmanuel women's team finished 7th out of 10 competing programs, while the EC men took 8th out of nine. The Saints turned in 14 podium performances on the day, including six top-three finishes and one Division III New England qualifier.
Junior Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) led the Saints men with his win in the 1000m. Chamenko raced to his personal record time of 2:43.68 to cross the line first. Freshman Brian Uram (Westford, Mass.) took 2nd in the men's 55mH, running down his PR time of 8.53.
Emmanuel got a pair of 3rd place finishes from junior Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) and Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.). Schoaf took 3rd place in the 800m with a time of 2:15.76, while Tavares finished his 200m event in 23.71. Emmanuel got a 6th place finish from junior Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), who recorded his PR in the Mile with a time of 4:47.93.
EC sophomore Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) took 2nd place with her 4'11.75" high jump. The Saints got 4th place finishes from junior Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) in the 400m, senior captain Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) in the 600m and senior Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.) in the 800m. Pierce-Dickens' time of 63.47 in the 400m was her personal best, while Benassi's time of 2:32.12 in the 800m was also a PR.
Rounding out EC's top-eight individual finishes were freshman Taylor Peck (Woodbury, Conn.), nabbing 7th place in the women's 600m and junior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) and freshman Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) snagging 5th and 8th places, respectively, in the women's 800m.
The Emmanuel women also turned in a pair of solid relay performances on the day. The Saints team of Pierce-Dickens, Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.), Sara Ciochetti (Watertown, Conn.) and Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) finished 3rd in the 4x200m. Their time of 1:53.45 also qualified the squad for the Division III New England Championships. The Saints 4x400m team of Benassi, Egan, Peck and Varca captured 5th place with their time of 4:39.48.
Emmanuel will be back in action next Saturday, February 7th, when the Saints compete in Boston University's Scarlet and White Invitational.
