SAINTS KICK OFF SECOND SEMESTER WITH RCC TIGER RELAY
ROXBURY, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Teams kicked off the second semester of action by competing in the RCC Tiger’s All-Comers Relay, hosted at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. The Saints recorded 24 collegiate personal bests on the day and two athletes qualified for the Division III New England Championships.
ROXBURY, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams kicked off the second semester of action by competing in the RCC Tiger's All-Comers Relay, hosted at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center. The Saints recorded 24 collegiate personal bests on the day and two athletes qualified for the Division III New England Championships.
Leading the way for EC was sophomore Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.), who raced to a new school record in the women's 60m hurdles. Costello sprinted to a 9.82 finish in the race trials to crack the Emmanuel record and qualify for post-season competition. Later, Costello turned in another personal best, as she hit 15'11.75" in the long jump.
Leading the Emmanuel men was senior Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.), who qualified for New Englands with his 50.55 finish in the 400m. Julien also ran the lead-off leg in the men's 4x400m relay, teaming up with Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), Brian Uram (Westford, Mass.) and Craig Shoaf (Raynham, Mass.) for a 3:42.19 finish. Tallo would also raced to a 2:07.11 time in the men's 800m.
Senior Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) recorded a 2:37.28 time in her 800m event. Egan was closely followed by classmate Martina Benassi (North Haven, Conn.), finishing in 2:38.43. Junior Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) turned in another fine performance, notching her personal record in the women's 200m, as she cut an additional tenth of a second off her time to finish in 27.84.
Rookie thrower Paige Depasquale (Maynard, Mass.) tacked on some distance to her weight throw and shot put last Saturday. Despasquale notched personal bests in both, throwing the shot put 33'4.75 and hurling the weight throw 34'9.75."
The Saints will return to the track this coming Saturday, January 17th, when the teams travel to Medford, Mass. for the Tufts University Invitational.
