TOUGHER COMPETITION CAN'T SLOW SAINTS AT HARVARD INVITE
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Saints took to the track at Harvard University over the weekend, competing against athletes from Division I and II programs at the Harvard Indoor Track & Field Invitational. Emmanuel performed well against the tougher competition with two New England Division III Championship qualifying performances, an ECAC Championship qualifier and 24 new personal records set.

Emmanuel performed well against the tougher competition with two New England Division III Championship qualifying performances, an ECAC Championship qualifier and 24 new personal records set.
Junior sprinter Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) led the way for EC, boasting a win in the men's 400m. Julien bested his upper division competitors with his 1st place and ECAC Championship qualifying time of 49.98. Classmate Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) cruised into 8th place with a Division III New England qualifying time of 51.04. Senior Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Parker Dubuque (Stratham, N.H.) turned in personal record times of 53.59 and 55.76, respectively, in the same event.
Thomas' 400m qualifier was one of two on the day for the junior. He also raced to a personal best 8.93 time in the men's 60m hurdles and again qualified for the New England Division III Championships.
After setting a new program-record in the 1000m just last week, women's team captain Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) recorded a new personal best in the indoor Mile with her time of 5:42.98. On the men's side, sophomore Richard Thompson (Norwood, Mass.) also clocked his best-ever time of 4:46.37 in the Mile, good enough for fifth all-time in EC program history.
Sophomore Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.) chased down her PR in the women's 400m with a time of 65.78. Junior Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.), who holds Emmanuel's second all-time fastest 800m time, finished in 2:34.67, four seconds off her best. Mauer, along with sophomore Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.), raced to personal bests in the 800m with times of 2:34.85 and 2:39.64, respectively. Senior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) finished two seconds off her best in a time of 2:36.62.
Senior captain Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) also raced two seconds off his best time in the 800m, finishing in 2:00.74. Sophomore Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) moved into third all-time for EC in 800m, finishing in his PR of 2:03.72.
Freshman Shannon Gay (Woburn, Mass.) finished less than a tenth of a second off her personal best time in the women's 60m, finishing in 8.41. Classmate Amanda Kennedy (Barnstable, Mass.) followed with her PR of 8.91.
Gay and Pierce-Dickens also turned in personal best times in the 200m, finishing in 28.19 and 28.55, respectively. On the men's side, Julien sprinted to a 7th place finish in the 200m with his time of 23.07.
Junior Christopher Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) captured his fastest collegiate indoor 3K time, crossing the line in 9:40.14. Sophomore Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) ran the 3K in 12:07.58.
Emmanuel's best relay performance on the day came in the men's 4x440. Baker, Thomas, Perdue and Julien combined for a time of 3:29.10, finishing in third place overall, less than three seconds behind Division I UMass Amherst and just two hundredths of a second behind Division II Bentley University.
Senior captain Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished the day tied for 7th place in the high jump (4'11") and in 18th place in the long jump (15'0").
The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams compete again next Saturday (2/8) at the MIT Invitational. The meet is slated to begin at noon.
