INDOOR TRACK TEAMS OPEN SECOND SEMESTER AT TUFTS INVITE
MEDFORD, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Teams opened the second semester of action at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Saints 4x800m men’s relay team improved on their New England Division III Championship qualifying time with a new program record. Junior Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) had standout days on the track, while nineteen other Emmanuel athletes recorded personal best performances.
MEDFORD, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams opened the second semester of action at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Saints 4x800m men's relay team improved on their New England Division III Championship qualifying time with a new program record. Junior Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) had standout days on the track, while nineteen other Emmanuel athletes recorded personal best performances.
The Emmanuel men placed 7th as a team, out of 10 competing programs. The Saints women finished 10th out of 11 competing teams.
Bruno improved on his ECAC qualifying time in the 600m, when he sprinted to a 3rd place time of 1:24.05. In his other individual event, Bruno raced to a personal best 8.90 in the 60m hurdles, which qualified him for the New England Division III Championships. Bruno also teamed up with Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.), Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) and Julien for a 3rd place finish of 3:29.66 in the men's 4x400m relay.
Julien finished 9th in the prelims of the 60m dash, racing to a new Emmanuel record with his time of 7.34. Both Perdue and Nyeem Cameron (Mattapan, Mass.) also recorded PRs in the 60m. Julien nabbed a win in the 400m, crossing the line first in a time of 51.47. Thomas took 6th place in the same race with his time of 53.44. Julien also placed 4th in the 200m with his time of 23.24.
The record-setting men's 4x800m relay team consisted of Abdi Ibrahim (East Boston, Mass.), Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.), Thomas Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) and Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.). The team finished in a 3rd place time of 8:18.12, improving on their prior Division III New England qualifying performance.
The Emmanuel women were led by strong individual performances from freshmen Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.), who ran a personal best 12:02.30 in the 3K, and Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.), who ran a PR 1:58.20 in the 600m. Two Emmanuel women's relay teams took 6th place. The 4x200m team of Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.), Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.), Samantha Berthiaume (North Dighton, Mass.) and Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) turned in a time of 1:56.79. The 4x800m team of Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.), Pangonis, Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) and Janelle Winship (Prospect, Me.) also snagged 6th place with their time of 11:01.35.
Junior Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) led the way for the Emmanuel women in the field, competing in three different events. Ulf recorded a 14'0.50 in the long jump, a 30'11.75" in the triple jump and a 4'7.25" in the high jump. Senior captain Mitch Moise (Medford, Mass.) led the Emmanuel men with a personal best weight throw of 33'10" and his 33'7.50" shot put.
Both the Emmanuel Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams will be back in action this Saturday, January 19th, at the Smith College Benyon Invitational.
