SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The 2016 Emmanuel College outdoor track & field season came to a close Saturday afternoon after several strong performances at the Division III New England Championships, hosted by Springfield College. The Saints sent a total of 12 student-athletes to represent Emmanuel and had four strong showings in each event they competed in.
Junior Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) broke his own school record in the 3K steeplechase by winning his heat with a time of 9:49.59. He finished 12th overall in the event.
Junior Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) finished 18th overall in the high jump with a leap of 4'10.50 feet.
The Saints had a pair of relay squads competing and both put together solid times in their season finale. The 4 X 100m team made up of Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.), Jordyn Gonsor (Springfield, Mass.), Mary Nahorniak (Chicopee, Mass.), and Micael Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.) posted a time of 52.80 for a 19th place finish. Fraccalossi recorded the fastest leg with a time of 12.50 second to finish the race.
EC also had a 4 X 800M team run a strong race we Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.), Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.), Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) and Katherine Holmberg (Easton, Mass.) finished 13th overall with a time of 10:00.44, which just missed out on qualifying for the ECAC Championships next weekend as a time of 10:00 flat would have done the trick. Pangonis ran the fastest leg for the squad, opening the race with a 2:26.24 split.
