WINTRHOP, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman Samantha Carrigan (Plaistow, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week/Libero of the Week for the week of August 26-September 2, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Carrigan becomes the first Emmanuel player to be named the GNAC Rookie of the Week since 2013 when now assistant coach Cassie Chruscielski '17 earned the honor last. She also becomes the first player in program-history to earn both Rookie of the Week and Libero of the Week honors in the same weekly reporting period.
The New Hampshire native appeared in all three matches last week for Emmanuel averaging 6.70 digs per set over 10 sets at the Western Connecticut State University Colonial Classic. Carrigan racked up 24 digs in her collegiate opener against WestConn, the most by an Emmanuel women's volleyballer in a season-opener since the 2011 campaign. She followed the debut up with 16 digs in a match against Penn State Berks and a season-best 27 digs in a 3-0 win over Smith.
Along with her 67 total digs, Carrigan added seven aces and three assists over the weekend to earn a spot on the Colonial Classic All-Tournament Team.
Emmanuel is currently 1-2 on the season and returns to action on Tuesday, September 10 when they travel to Lesley University for a 7:00 PM non-conference match.
