Senior Spotlight Series - Kerry Sendrick - Softball
With the sudden end to the 2020 spring seasons due to the CoVID19 epidemic, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department wanted to take a moment to recognize members of the class of 2020 during the final semester of their senior season at Emmanuel College. The Senior Spotlight Series was a chance for our community as Saints to give each of these individuals the notoriety and recognition they all deserve while getting a little behind the scenes glimpse into their lives outside the uniform.

Participation in this series was optional and we're grateful to have heard from so many wonderful representatives from our senior class. While their careers at Emmanuel may be coming to a close, their lives as Saints are just beginning.

SSS Q&A
1) What was your favorite memory related to your softball experience?
My favorite memory was playing JWU last year and we beat them the first game of the double header. Then we started the second game and were down by 6 runs in the first inning. We started coming back and in the 7th inning Yolo hit a grand slam to tie the game to go into extra innings. In the 8th I hit a three-run homerun to win the game. We hadn't swept JWU since 2016.
2) Favorite pre-game playlist song?
My favorite pre-game song is WIN by Jay Rock
3) Proudest athletic accomplishment/achievement at Emmanuel?
My proudest accomplishment was being named a captain for my junior and senior year.
4) What game/opponent did you always look forward to every season?
I always looked forward to Simmons and Suffolk. We have that Boston rivalry which always made the games more competitive. Both teams also usually made a good run in playoffs so it was always a good match up.
5) Other than your own sport/team, what was your favorite EC athletic program to support and why?
My favorite athletic program to support was the men's and women's basketball teams. Both teams were always so competitive and fun to watch.
6) One thing you'll miss the most about being on the softball team at EC?
The thing that I'll miss the most is my team. They were such a great group of girls and I'm so happy that I got the year that I did with them. Each one of them holds a special place in my heart and has so much talent and potential. I am going to miss being a part of the success of ECSB, but I am so excited to see all of those girls grow and make the program better.
7) Tell us something most people probably don't know about you that relates to your sport.
I have a broken back. I found out that I had a stress fracture in one of my vertebrae right before the beginning of my sophomore season. It took forever to diagnose and heal, so I was out the majority of the season and for the games that I came back for I was playing in a scoliosis brace. I finally got out of the brace for my junior year season, but I never got surgery or anything to help the fracture heal. So all of college I have played softball with a broken back.
8) Give one shout out/thank you to someone who impacted your EC Athletic experience.
I have to say thank you to my coaches over the years, especially Coach Olivia, who put up with me for the past three years. I'd also like to thank the 2019 senior class who helped make me into the player I became. My 2020 team, who supported me so much and made me so grateful to have them as family. Sarah and Yolo, you guys have been my rocks and I can't thank you enough. Finally my parents, who have always supported me in everything that I did and pushed me to be the best person I could be.
9) What are your post-grad plans?
To work in Clinical Research for a couple of years and then go onto graduate school to pursue either nursing, genetic counseling, or to become a physician's assistant.
10) Give some advice or words of wisdom to future Saints.
My advice is to never take anything for granted. You never know when you are going to get an injury that puts you out for the season or when life just happens. My four years flew by and you never know when it could be your last game, so make the most of every practice and game. I would also say take advantage of the community that you become a part of as a student-athlete. I have made so many meaningful connections being a part of athletics and it truly made my college experience better. Enjoy every year like it is your last.
Thank you, Kerry, for your commiment and dedication to Emmanuel College Athletics and the Softball program! Check back in every Tuesday and Thursday for more content from the Senior Spotlight Series!
