2013 SOFTBALL SEASON IN REVIEW

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Softball team wrapped up its 2013 campaign with an overall record of 14-26, doubling its win total from a year ago. Under first-year head coach Rob Spofford, the Saints improved in every single offensive category including an increase in team average by 75 percentage points, 99 additional hits, 80 more runs scored as well as 80 more RBI. The Saints swiped a program record 97 stolen bases to lead the Great Northeast Athletic Conference while ranking second in New England and 11th overall in the national among Division III programs averaging 2.43 steals per game.

SAINTS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HOSTS ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT

The Emmanuel College Athletic Department hosted its Annual Awards Night and Dessert Reception last weekend, celebrating the Saints success during the 2012-2013 athletic seasons. Student-athletes, coaches, supportive families and fans filled the gymnasium of Emmanuel's Jean Yawkey Center on Saturday evening, April 27th, for the annual athletic recognition night. The event featured award presentations by the head coaches of each of Emmanuel's varsity programs and spirit teams, as well as major award presentations by Saints staff and administrators. Emmanuel's food service division, Bon Appetit, provided a delectable buffet of dessert selections for all of the attendees.

GARRITY & DAVIS EARN ALL-GNAC SOFTBALL HONORS

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman shortstop Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior pitcher/outfielder Jennifer Garrity (Lynn, Mass.) have been named to the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Second Team, announced by the conference office earlier today.

SOFTBALL DROPS TWO IN SEASON FINALE TO ALBERTUS MAGNUS

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Softball team dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference games to Albertus Magnus College Monday evening at Roberto Clemente Field. The Falcons captured game one, 3-2, in eight innings before prevailing 6-5 in game two. With the wins, AMC ends its season with a 16-22 (9-15 GNAC) record while the Saints 2013 campaign concludes at 14-24 (5-17 GNAC). Prior to the start of the game, the Emmanuel athletic department honored its two seniors Kelly Lloid and Jackie Murray.

JWU SNEAKS PAST SOFTBALL IN GNAC ACTION, 1-0 & 3-0

Providence, R.I. -- The Johnson & Wales University softball swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference double header at the Wildcat Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon. The games marked the first time in school history the softball team has played on their own campus. JWU posted a 1-0 win in the opener and completed the sweep with a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.

SOFTBALL PICKS UP TWO WINS OVER WENTWORTH, 10-2 & 5-3

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College softball team recorded a pair of victories Wednesday evening, defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology 10-2 & 5-3 at Roberto Clemente Field in non-conference action. With the wins, the Saints improve to 14-22 on the year while the losses drop WIT to 6-23.

DAVIS EARNS THIRD GNAC SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR

Emmanuel College freshman Catherine Davis has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. Davis’ third GNAC Rookie of the Week honor came on April 15th, after the freshman shortstop and Emmanuel’s lead-off hitter continued her solid rookie campaign, registering a .636 batting average on the week to help Emmanuel post a 4-2 record.

SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO EMERSON ON PATRIOTS DAY

BOSTON, Mass. – Two complete shutouts by the pitching staff spelled the story Monday as the Emerson Softball Team took two wins from Emmanuel College with an 8-0 (6) and 7-0 final. With the wins Emerson improves to 17-11 and 14-2 in conference play while Emmanuel falls to 12-22 and 5-14 in GNAC action.

SAINTS SPLIT GNAC SOFTBALL TWINBILL WITH LASELL

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College softball team used an 11 hit effort to earn a 5-4 victory in game two of a GNAC doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Lasell College at Roberto Clemente Field. Lasell was able to capture game one, 9-5, behind 10 hits and four EC errors. Following the split, the Saints stand at 12-20 on the year and 5-12 in the GNAC while the Lasers are now 7-23 and 4-14.

SAINTS SWEEP BUCCANEERS IN NON-LEAGUE DOUBLE-HEADER

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Freshman Kerianne Vulpis (East Rockaway, N.Y.) rapped out five hits and drove in six runs to lead Emmanuel to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 17-0 in the opener and 16-2 in the nightcap. The two five-inning contests were played at Alison Rollins Field.

BLUEJAYS STOP SAINTS IN GNAC SOFTBALL TWINBILL

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College suffered two losses to the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Sunday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball twinbill played on the diamond at Roberto Clemente Field. The visiting Bluejays nipped the Saints, 4-3, in game one, before handily taking care of the hosts, 12-4 in the nightcap. The wins bring USJ to 15-9 overall, 7-5 GNAC, while Emmanuel slips to 8-18 overall, 3-11 GNAC.

EMMANUEL SOFTBALL DROPS A PAIR AT SAINT JOSEPH'S

STANDISH, Me. - Saint Joseph's College (17-5, 9-3 GNAC) won both ends of a GNAC doubleheader with Emmanuel College (8-16, 3-9 GNAC) at a blustery Richard W. Bailey Field on Saturday afternoon. The Monks kicked off the twinbill with a 14-6 mercy-rule triumph and capped the sweep with an 8-1 victory in the nightcap.

SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH SIMMONS IN COLLEGES OF THE FENWAY DOUBLE-HEADER

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Saints pulled off a split with neighboring Simmons College on Friday night in a Colleges of the Fenway rivalry played under the lights at Roberto Clemente Field. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double-header featured the Sharks capturing a 5-0 shutout win in game one, before the Saints rallied for a 5-4 win in the nightcap. The split moves the Saints to 8-14 on the season and 3-7 in GNAC play, while the Sharks stand at 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the league.

SAINTS MARCH PAST GATORS FOR DOUBLE-HEADER SWEEP

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Emmanuel College took both games of an NCAA Softball doubleheader, by scores of 9-0 and 14-1, over host Pine Manor College on Saturday afternoon at Pine Manor Field. With the pair of victories the Saints improve to 7-11 overall (2-4 GNAC) while the Gators drop to 0-4 early in the season.

SUFFOLK SWEEPS EC SOFTBALL IN GNAC DOUBLEHEADER

BOSTON, Mass. – The Suffolk University softball team collected a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference victories Wednesday evening over Emmanuel College at Clemente Field. The Rams took game one, 5-3, before earning an 8-3 victory in game two to improve to 3-9 on the year, 2-2 in the GNAC. The losses drop the Saints to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

SOFTBALL TEAM GRABS ONE WIN IN A PAIR OF 5-2 CONTESTS

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Softball Team hosted Rivier College on Tuesday night in a pair of make-up games played under the lights at Roberto Clemente Field. The host Saints took the opening game, 5-2, before dropping the nightcap by the same score. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) split, Emmanuel now stands at 5-9 on the season and 2-2 in the league. Rivier moves to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in GNAC play.
