2013 WOMEN'S SOCCER SEASON IN REVIEW

BOSTON, Mass. –The Emmanuel College women’s soccer program posted its seventh consecutive 10+ win season in 2013, registering an overall record of 10-8-3 which included a 7-2-2 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). The Saints earned the No. 4 seed and a first-round home game in the GNAC tournament before falling to the eventual champions in the Semifinals.

ROGERS INDUCTED TO FERRUM ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME

FERRUM, Va. - Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach Keith Rogers was recently inducted to the Athletics Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Ferrum College. Rogers, who has been a fixture on the Saints Women’s Soccer sidelines for the past 13 seasons, was a member of Ferrum’s 1974 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship Football Team. Starting as a wide received for the Panthers for two seasons, Rogers led Ferrum to the national title during his sophomore year.

SULLIVAN, GARVEY & CARDILLO HONORED ON ALL-GNAC WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAMS

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore defender Ari Cardillo (Richmond, Mass.), senior midfielder Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) and senior forward Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, R.I.) have been selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer All-Conference Team, it was announced by the conference office. Cardillo and Sullivan were named First Team selections while Garvey was tabbed on the Third Team.

WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO LASELL IN GNAC SEMIFINALS, 5-2

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College women’s soccer team advanced to their fourth consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship game with a 5-2 victory over Emmanuel College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lasers improved their record to 16-3-1 on the season, tying their program record for victories while Emmanuel dropped to 10-8-3 for the year.

COLFORD, CAREY & ATKINSON HONORED BY GNAC

BOSTON, Mass. – Three Emmanuel College student-athletes were recognized this week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in the weekly reports. Sophomore Sean Colford (Eddping, N.H.) was named the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, freshman Maggie Carey (Swampscott, Mass.) was named the Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week and freshman Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) was named the Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week.

WOMEN'S SOCCER ADVANCES TO GNAC SEMIFINALS WITH 3-0 WIN OVER USJ

BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 4 seeded Emmanuel College Women’s Soccer Team shut out the 5th-seeded Blue Jays of University of Saint Joseph, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. The GNAC quarterfinal victory on Emmanuel’s home Clemente Field propelled the host Saints to 10-7-3 on the season. The Blue Jays end their season at 10-5-3.

SOCCER TEAMS SET FOR GNAC POST-SEASON PLAY

The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams have each earned post-season play-off bids. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament is set to begin this coming weekend with women’s quarterfinal action on Saturday and men’s quarterfinal games to be played on Sunday at the home sites of the highest seeds.

SULLIVAN POWERS SAINTS PAST ALBERTUS MAGNUS, 2-1

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) scored two goals including the game-winner with just 7:35 left in regulation to power the Emmanuel College women’s soccer team past Albertus Magnus College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Roberto Clemente Field. With the victory, the Saints improve to 9-7-3 overall and 7-2-2 in the GNAC to secure the #4 seed and a Quarterfinal home game in next week’s conference tournament. The loss drops the Falcons to 12-4-2 overall, snapping their eight-match winning streak and dropping them to 9-2 in the GNAC which puts them in the #2 spot for the tournament.

WOMEN’S SOCCER BATTLES TO 0-0 DRAW AT USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph and the Emmanuel College women’s soccer teams each posted their third consecutive shutouts and the streak happened against each other on Wednesday afternoon. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rivals played to a double-overtime, scoreless tie at USJ. While the result seemed to have settled very little, it was a fitting prelude to what may become a GNAC quarterfinal match-up between these two teams next Saturday, November 2.

SAINTS POST 4-0 FAMILY WEEKEND WIN OVER MUSTANGS

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College put together its second-straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) shutout, notching a 4-0 win over the visiting Mustangs of Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon. The Saints’ Family Weekend women’s soccer game was played on a beautiful fall day at Roberto Clemente Field. The win boosted the Saints ledger to 8-7-2 on the season and 6-2-1 in GNAC action, while the loss dropped the Mustangs to 2-12 overall and 1-8 in league play.

SAINTS DOWN AMCATS IN WOMEN'S SOCCER ACTION, 5-0

Paxton, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, RI) netted a pair of second-half goals to led the Saints to a 5-0 victory over host Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s soccer action on Monday afternoon at AMCAT Field.

WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO SAINT JOSEPH’S (ME), 3-1

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision against Saint Joseph’s College (ME) Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Clemente Field. The Monks improve to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in GNAC action while the loss drops the Saints to 6-7-2 and 4-2-1 in the GNAC.

SAINTS EDGE RAIDERS, 2-1

NASHUA, N.H. – The Emmanuel Women’s Soccer Team put together its second consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win on Wednesday night, when the Saints rolled to a 2-1 win over Rivier University. The win under the lights at Raider Field boosts the Saints to 6-6-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in league play. Rivier falls to 2-8-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the GNAC with the setback.

WOMEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT CADETS, 3-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Emmanuel College Women’s Soccer Team put together a three-goal shutout over Norwich University under the lights at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium on Saturday night. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest was part of Norwich’s homecoming weekend, as the visiting Saints improved to 5-6-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in conference action.

DEFENDING CHAMPS HAND SAINTS FIRST GNAC LOSS

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College Women’s Soccer Team won its fourth-straight match, defeating Emmanuel College 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field. The defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champions improved to 7-2 on the season and remained perfect in conference play at 4-0. Emmanuel dropped to 4-6-2 for the 2013 season, while sliding to 2-1-1 in GNAC contests.

FREADMAN TABBED GNAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman Courtney Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week, after helping the Saints go 2-0 in last week’s action. Freadman enjoyed a three-point week, as the Saints topped Emerson College, 2-0, and Simmons College, 2-1.
