THE LEAD: Junior attack Kylie Rice (Bethleham, Conn.) joined the Emmanuel College women's lacrosse 100 point club on Monday evening as the Saints fell to visiting Regis College, 14-8, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rice became the eighth player in program history to reach the 100 points milestone with a free position goal at the 22:23 marker in the first quarter to get the Saints on the board at 3-1 after the Pride raced ahead to an early 3-0 lead.
- Regis netted two more goals before the midway point of the half to build a 5-1 advantage.
- The Saints answered later in the stanza as sophomore Emily Saef (Moultonborough, N.H.) and freshman Jessica Borduas (Woodbury, Conn.) scored just 36 seconds apart to make it a two-goal game at 5-3 with 4:44 left in the first half.
- The Pride thwarted the hosts momentum by scoring four goals over the final 2:43 of the half as senior Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) and junior Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) each found the net twice to give Regis a 9-3 lead at the break.
- Anselmo netted a player-up goal just 20 seconds into the second frame to make it 10-3 before Rice cut the deficit to five with two scores to pull the Saints back to a 10-5 score.
- Regis put the game out of reach with four unanswered goals to bump the lead to 14-5 with 16:16 to play.
- The Pride appeared to then take a 10-goal lead but an offsides negated the goal and ignited a spark for the host Saints as Emmanuel scored the game's final three goals with Rice finding the back of the net two more times with Borduas also scoring in the flurry to account for the 14-8 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Anselmo led all players with 11 points on six goals and five assists while Kelly finished the game with seven points on five goals and two helpers.
- Rice ended the action with six points (five goals/one assist) and has now scored two or more goals in seven straight games.
- Regis goalie Brittany McPherson (Lynn, Mass.) was stellar in net making 13 saves to improve to 7-1 on the year while EC keeper Bethany Bonilla-Colon made nine saves to fall to 4-4 overall.
- Despite the loss, the Saints did manage to win the draw control match-up on the evening, finishing the night with a 14-9 advantage on the restarts led by five draw controls from sophomore Elizabeth Fortier (Newburyport, Mass.).
