BOSTON, Mass. – Senior guard Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference.office. This marks the ninth time in her career that Ramirez-Tejeda has been named the GNAC Player of the Week, earning the honor once as a sophomore, five times last season as a junior and three times this season.
Ramirez-Tejeda lifted the Saints to a crucial 2-0 week in GNAC play with key victories over Albertus Magnus and Saint Joseph's (Maine) by averaging 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for Emmanuel. The senior dropped 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a road victory over the Falcons before scoring 18 points to go with 10 rebounds in a senior day victory over the Monks. The Cambridge native shot 58.8% (20-34) from the field on the week and finished with five steals and five assists in 30.0 minutes per game.
Through 24 games, Ramirez-Tejeda ranks fourth in the GNAC in scoring at 18.8 ppg and fourth in rebounding at 11.3 rebounds per game. She is one of only four players in the conference currently averaging a double-double on the year and has tallied 18 double-doubles this season to rank tied for first in the country among NCAA Division III ballers, sharing the lead with Emily Mealey of Lebanon Valley who also has 18 double-doubles through 23 games played.
Emmanuel closes out the regular season on Tuesday, February 18 when they travel to Newton, Mass. to take on Lasell University in the last GNAC contest before the Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday, February 25. The Saints are currently tied for first place with Regis College but do not have the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Pride who topped EC back on January 25 by a 55-52 final score. The Saints still have a shot at earning the No. 1 seeding with some help, needing a win over Lasell as well as Saint Joseph's College (ME) to beat Regis on Feb. 22 and having Suffolk University drop one of its final two games to either Colby-Sawyer or Rivier.
