Ramirez-Tejeda Named D3Hoops.com Preseason All-American
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior guard Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) has been tabbed as a D3hoops.com Fourth Team Preseason All-American, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior guard Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) has been tabbed as a D3hoops.com Fourth Team Preseason All-American, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.
Ramirez-Tejeda garners the national honor after averaging 20.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 55.9% (275-492) from the floor during her junior season, after which she was named First Team All-Conference, NEWBA Second Team All-Region, and D3hoops.com Second Team All-Region.
Last winter, she ranked sixth among NCAA DIII women's ballers in total points (625) and ranked 12th in the nation in rebounds (327). She finished the year with 20 double-doubles which ranked fourth overall during the 2018-19 campaign at the Division III level.
During her junior season, she also collected GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors as well as CoSIDA Academic All-American, Academic All-District and Academic All-Conference accolades. She was named the USBWA National Player of the Week on two separate occasions and also garnered GNAC Player of the Week Honors four times over the course of the 2018-19 playing season.
Ramirez-Tejeda became the 24th EC player to surpass the 1,000-point plateau last season as a junior and enters her senior season having scored 1,037 points with 588 rebounds, 116 steals, and 99 assists in 57 career games with the Saints. She became the fastest player in program history to reach the 1,000-point club, needing only 55 games to do so.
The senior guard is one of five players from the New England Region and only Massachusetts based student-athlete to be recognized with a preseason accolade from D3hoops.com, as Amherst College senior guards Madeline Eck (Rye, N.Y.) and Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), Bowdoin senior forward Maddie Hasson (South Portland, Maine) and Tufts senior forward Erica DeCandido (North Wales, Pa.) join her as five of the 25 players from around the nation to be listed on the four Preseason All-America and one Honorable Mention teams.
Ramirez-Tejeda becomes the fifth player in Emmanuel program history to earn recognition from D3Hoops.com and the first to earn Preseason All-American honors The other four players were named D3Hoops.com All-Americans at the end of their respective playing seasons including Marcy Tillman (2002 – 2nd Team), Jade Paez (2007 – Honorable Mention), Iman Davis (2009 – 5th Team) and Fiona O'Dwyer (2013 – 3rd Team) with the honors.
Ramirez-Tejeda and the Saints open the 2019-20 campaign on Saturday, November 16th when they play host to Saint Joseph's College of Brooklyn (NY) at 3:00 PM as part of the EC Tip Off Classic.
