2013 MEN’S LACROSSE SEASON IN REVIEW

BOSTON, Mass. – After winning seven games during their inaugural season in 2012, the Emmanuel College Men’s Lacrosse program increased its strength of schedule and came right back with seven more wins in 2013. The Saints posted a 7-10 overall record including a 4-5 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference which was good for the No. 5 seed in the GNAC Playoffs.

SAINTS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HOSTS ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT

The Emmanuel College Athletic Department hosted its Annual Awards Night and Dessert Reception last weekend, celebrating the Saints success during the 2012-2013 athletic seasons. Student-athletes, coaches, supportive families and fans filled the gymnasium of Emmanuel's Jean Yawkey Center on Saturday evening, April 27th, for the annual athletic recognition night. The event featured award presentations by the head coaches of each of Emmanuel's varsity programs and spirit teams, as well as major award presentations by Saints staff and administrators. Emmanuel's food service division, Bon Appetit, provided a delectable buffet of dessert selections for all of the attendees.

HEFFERNAN & ROGERS NAMED TO ALL-GNAC MEN’S LACROSSE TEAMS

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman defensemen Pat Heffernan (Pembroke, Mass.) has been selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse First Team All-Conference squad while freshman midfielder Michael Rogers (New Haven, Conn.) has been selected to the Second Team, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Heffernan was the only freshman selected on the first team while Rogers was the only freshman named to the second team. Their appointment to the squads mark the program’s first-ever All-Conference selections.

MEN'S LACROSSE FALLS IN GNAC SEMIS TO NORWICH, 13-8

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Junior Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) scored four times to lead the top-seeded Norwich University men’s lacrosse team to a 13-8 win against No. 5 Emmanuel College in the semifinal round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament.

SAINTS UPSET MONKS FOR FIRST-EVER LACROSSE TOURNEY WIN

STANDISH, Me. – The 5th-seeded Emmanuel College Saints upset the 4th-seeded Saint Joseph’s College Monks, 9-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s lacrosse tournament quarterfinal at Westerlea Way Field on Tuesday afternoon. The win marked the first post-season victory in the brief history of either lacrosse program at Emmanuel. The Saints will now advance to take on the top-seeded Cadets of Norwich University in the GNAC semifinals in Vermont on Thursday afternoon. The Cadets toppled No. 8 Anna Maria College by a 19-6 margin in other conference quarterfinal action this afternoon.

SAINTS WRAP REGULAR SEASON WITH 15-5 WIN OVER EAGLES

NASHUA, N.H. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Lacrosse Team completed the 2013 regular season with a 15-5 victory over Daniel Webster College on Saturday evening at Eagle Field. In a contest originally scheduled to be played as the first half of a men’s and women’s lacrosse double-header in Boston, the Saints improved to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. With the win, the Saints have now clinched the 5th seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament.

LASERS SNEAK PAST SAINTS, 4-3, IN DOUBLE O.T.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Lacrosse Team held Lasell College to just one goal through three periods, before the Lasers fought back to take a 4-3 victory in double-overtime at Roberto Clemente Field on Tuesday night. The heated game marks the Saints’ third-straight one-goal Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) outcome in the past seven days and Emmanuel’s sixth one-goal loss of the season.

LAUZIER NAMED GNAC GOALIE OF THE WEEK

Emmanuel College Sophomore Austin Lauzier was honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon, as he was named the GNAC Men’s Lacrosse Goalie of the Week. Lauzier’s recognition comes on the heels of the Saints’ 9-8 win over Becker College on Saturday afternoon.

DOLBER LIFTS MEN’S LACROSSE PAST BECKER, 9-8

LEICESTER, Mass. – Sophomore attackman Evan Dolber (Malden, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with :01 second left in regulation to propel the Emmanuel College team past Becker College, 9-8, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse action. With the victory, the Saints improve to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in GNAC play while the loss drops the Hawks to 4-10 and 3-5.

MUSTANGS EDGE SAINTS, 8-7

NEWTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Lacrosse Team suffered its fifth one-goal loss of the 2013 season, when the Saints fell to the defending champion Mustangs of Mount Ida College, 8-7, on Wednesday night. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game was a back and forth battle that occurred in the rain on Mount Ida’s Alumni Field. With the win, the Mustangs improve to an overall record of 6-7, 5-1 GNAC, while Emmanuel drops to (4-8, 2-4 GNAC).

EMMANUEL ROLLS TO 16-4 WIN OVER EMERSON

BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College cruised to a 16-4 win over Emerson College in a cross-town men's lacrosse match-up played at Roberto Clemente Field on Saturday afternoon. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory, the Saints move to 4-7 on the season and 2-3 in GNAC action. Emerson drops to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

SALEM STATE RALLIES PAST MEN’S LACROSSE IN OVERTIME, 7-6

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior attackman Frank Lento (Salem, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 41 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to lead Salem State University past the Emmanuel College men’s lacrosse team, 7-6, Wednesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field. With the win, the Vikings improve to 6-2 on the year while the loss drops the Saints to 3-7 and is their fourth one-goal defeat.

MEN’S LAX ENDS SKID WITH 6-4 WIN OVER RIVIER

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men’s lacrosse team downed Rivier University, 6-4, Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. With the victory, the Saints snap a six-game losing streak including the previous three conference games by one-goal defeats to improve to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the GNAC while the loss drops the Raiders to 6-4 and 2-3 in the GNAC.

SAINTS SUFFER THIRD-STRAIGHT HEART-BREAKER

PAXTON, Mass. – Anna Maria senior Chris Summers (Long Valley, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal with 45 ticks on the clock to give the AMCATS men’s lacrosse team a hard-fought 11-10 win over visiting Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night. With the win the AMCATS move to 3-6 and earn their first GNAC win of the season (1-3), while the Saints drop to 2-6 (0-3 GNAC). This was Emmanuel’s third-straight one-goal loss in GNAC action in less than a week.

MEN’S LAX RALLY FALLS SHORT AS CADETS EDGE SAINTS, 7-6

NEWTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel Men’s Lacrosse Team suffered its second-straight one goal loss with a 7-6 defeat at the hands of Norwich University. Norwich fought off a late charge by the Saints to post the narrow win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The GNAC contest was played on the turf at nearby Lasell College on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Cadets improve to 2-3 overall and remain unbeaten in GNAC play at 2-0. The loss drops the Saints to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in the GNAC.

PORTLAND, ME – Saint Joseph’s College (3-4, 2-0 GNAC) surged past Emmanuel College (2-4, 0-1 GNAC), 5-4, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s lacrosse contest at Fitzpatrick Stadium on Thursday evening.
