2013-14 MEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON IN REVIEW

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men’s basketball team wrapped up the 2013-14 season with a 6-19 overall record, going 4-14 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Saints just missed out on postseason play due to a head-to-head tiebreaker for the No. 8 seed in the GNAC tournament.

MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO ALBERTUS MAGNUS IN SEASON FINALE

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Emmanuel College wrapped up the 2013-14 campaign with a 95-78 loss at Albertus Magnus College in the final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball game of the regular season. With the loss on Saturday afternoon at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center, the Saints finish the year at 6-19 overall and 4-14 in GNAC action. Albertus Magnus improves to 23-2 on the season and 17-1 in league play with the win and will host a GNAC Quarterfinal contest on Tuesday night.

EMMANUEL DOWNS SUFFOLK IN FINAL HOME GAME

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Basketball Team pulled off its second-consecutive win on Tuesday night in the Jean Yawkey Center, with an 85-75 victory over cross-town rival Suffolk University. The Saints’ win in their final home game of the season boosted Emmanuel to 6-18 overall and 4-13 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Suffolk dropped to 9-14 on the season and 6-10 in the league with the loss.

THREE TIMES A CHARM FOR SULLIVAN

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman James Sullivan has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season and for the second consecutive week. Sullivan’s most recent recognition came after he averaged 18 points and four rebounds in two games last week, while leading the Saints to a huge victory over Rivier University.

SENIORS CLUTCH FROM THE LINE AS MEN’S HOOP POSTS BIG WIN ON SENIOR DAY

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior guards Josh Welles (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Brandon Jones (Windsor, Conn.) sunk clutch free throws down the stretch, as the Emmanuel College Men’s Basketball Team edged the visiting Raiders of Rivier University, 67-62, on Saturday afternoon in the Jean Yawkey Center. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) battle marked a must-win game for the Saints, as the team strives to keep their hopes for a post-season tournament bid alive.

SHARP-SHOOTING MONKS TOP SAINTS, 78-67

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College suffered a 78-67 setback at the hands of St. Joseph’s College (ME) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball action played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Tuesday night. The visiting Monks used a game-high 32-point scoring effort from senior guard Matthew Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) and 55.1% team field goal shooting to secure the win.

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman guard James Sullivan (Wethersfield, Conn.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s basketball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference office earlier this afternoon.

JWU TOPS MEN'S BASKETBALL, 89-66

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Robert Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) notched a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the JWU men's basketball team to a commanding 89-66 victory over Emmanuel College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Saturday afternoon.

NORWICH HOLDS ON FOR 70-60 WIN OVER SAINTS

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Despite a late surge by the Saints, the Norwich University Men's Basketball Team defeated Emmanuel College, 70-60 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening in Andrews Hall. Both teams entered the game with identical 4-15 overall records and 2-10 GNAC records. The Cadets prevailed to improve to 5-15 and 3-10 in league play, while the loss dropped the Saints to 4-16 and 2-11 in GNAC action. Norwich won an earlier meeting, 81-76, on Jan. 11th.

MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME POSTPONED

Tonight's Men's Basketball Game at Norwich University has been postponed due to the snow storm. This game will now be played on Thursday night, February 6th, in Northfield, Vermont. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.

LASELL TOPS MEN’S BASKETBALL, 89-74

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men’s basketball team dropped a 89-74 decision to Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Jean Yawket Center. The Lasers improve to 10-7 and 7-4 in GNAC play while the loss drops EC to 4-15 and 2-10 in the GNAC.

MEN'S HOOP COMES UP SHORT AT ST. JOE'S, 72-70

STANDISH, Me. – Saint Joseph’s College (10-8, 9-2 GNAC) edged Emmanuel College (4-14, 2-9 GNAC), 72-70, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday evening. Junior forward Zach Blodgett (Glenburn, Maine) netted a career-high 23 rebounds off a 5-9 effort from three-point land and added seven rebounds in the narrow victory.

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman men’s basketball player Kyle Smith (Los Angeles, Calif.) has been tabbed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the GNAC office earlier today.

MIT TOPPLES SAINTS, 70-46

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Basketball Team suffered a 70-46 non-conference loss to MIT on Monday night in the Jean Yawkey Center. The Engineers improved to 13-4 on the season with the win, while the Saints fell to 4-13 overall with the loss. Over the ten-game series between these two programs, the Engineers have now gone 9-1 against the Saints.

SAINTS USE BALANCED ATTACK TO DOWN CROSS-TOWN RIVALS

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Basketball Team placed six players in double-figures in the scoring column, as the Saints rolled to a 94-88 win over the host Suffolk University Rams on Saturday afternoon. This was the fourth win of the season for the visiting Saints, who improved to 2-8 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action with the win.

ANNA MARIA TAKES SECOND-STRAIGHT OVER EC

PAXTON, Mass. – Sophomore forward Kyle McKissick (Providence, RI) notched 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first career double-double to lead the Anna Maria College men’s basketball team to an 81-70 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Emmanuel College at Fuller Activities Center on Monday afternoon. With the win, the AMCATS move to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in GNAC play, while the Saints dip to 3-12 (1-8 GNAC) on the season.
