BISMARCK, N.D. - A panel of industry experts has selected Emmanuel College Assistant Athletic Director Dan Campagna as a member of the Sports 40 Under 40 Class of 2019, it was announced on Tuesday, June 25th at the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) annual convention.
This honor, sponsored by Coach and Athletic Director Magazine, is reserved exclusively for outstanding young industry professionals who are demonstrating exceptional commitment to their sport(s), innovation and industry leadership within the high school, collegiate, professional and industry athletic professions. Dan was the only male professional selected among the collegiate ranks this year, joining University of Southern Maine Women's Basketball Head Coach Samantha Allen as the only two collegiate selections in the 2019 Sports 40 Under 40 Class.
Campagna enters his ninth year on the EC Athletics staff since returning to his alma mater in 2011 as the Assistant Sports Information Director. He served in that role for five years before earning his first promotion to the role of Director of Athletic Communications, Sports Information and Compliance in 2015. Two years later he was elevated into his current role as Assistant AD.
In this role, Campagna oversees all facets of Game Day Operations at Emmanuel for home athletic events. He manages over 50 student-workers, many of which have gone on to pursue careers in athletic administration and coaching following their Emmanuel graduation.
Concurrently, Campagna continues to serve in his role as the College's Director of Athletic Communications, Sports Information and Compliance in which he oversees all communications and publications produced by the Department while also organizing the NCAA compliance efforts for all varsity student-athletes, coaches and personnel at Emmanuel. He also is the webmaster for the Saints athletic homepage, goECSaints.com and manages the content on all social media platforms for the Saints.
"Dan's a phenomenal leader that does a little bit of everything for us. We're very lucky to have such dedicated alum on staff that is so invested in what we do at Emmanuel," said Associate Athletic Director and Head Women's Basketball Coach Andy Yosinoff. "It's easy for student-athletes to see him as a role model and mentor because he's been in their shoes."
On top of his administrative duties, Campagna is a valued member of the Emmanuel College Women's Soccer coaching staff. Following an eight-year stint (2009-16) at UMass Boston as a part-time assistant coach, Campagna joined the Saints' staff just days before the start of the 2017 campaign to fill an unexpected head coaching vacancy. He helped lead the Saints to an 11-8-1 overall record while posting an 8-2-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Campagna was voted the 2017 GNAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year by his fellow coaching peers in his only season at the helm of the program. Following the one-year stint as a Head Coach, Campagna has remained on staff as an Assistant Coach while retaining his full-time responsibilities with the department.
Campagna is also an active member of the Emmanuel College community where he is part of the adjunct faculty core in the English department, teaching a Sport Communication course each spring. He is also a certified STRENGTHS Coach for the Gallup Strengths program and has mentored students in this program each of the past two academic years. He volunteers his time regularly on search committees for vacant positions across the college, most recently serving as a member of the Dean of Students search panel. He's aided the college in the hiring process for positions in Athletics, Residence Life, Student Activities and Multicultural Programing and Mission & Ministry. Additionally, he has served in a volunteer Club Advisor role for both the Baseball Club and A Cappella Club.
"Emmanuel has been my home since the day I set foot on campus as a student-athlete and that feeling has never changed," said Campagna. "I love being a part of the Saints community and am truly blessed to have the opportunity to be so involved at the place that helped shape the person I am today."
While at Emmanuel, Campagna was a member of the men's varsity soccer, indoor track & field and volleyball programs. He received a Bachelor of Arts in English Communications from Emmanuel in 2007, graduating magna cum laude and went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts - Boston in June of 2011.
Campagna will be featured, along with the rest of the 40 Under 40 Class of 2019, in the July/August issue of Coach and Athletic Director magazine.
