BRISTOL, R.I. - The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball Team was defeated in its first match of the 2009 season. The Saints lost, 3-1, on the road at Roger Williams University on Tuesday night. In the fourth set, the Hawks led most of the way, taking a modest 23-19 lead. The Saints mounted a brief comeback, including an ace by senior middle Nicole McAllister (Hampden, Maine). However, the Hawks came away with a 25-21 win and a 3-1 victory in the match.
Sophomore Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) led the Saints with 11 kills, while classmate Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) added 32 assists. Sophomore Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) and freshman Samantha Andazola (Queen Creak, Ariz.) tied for team high in digs with 12 apiece.
