2013 WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SEASON IN REVIEW

BOSTON, Mass. – After a disappointing campaign in 2012 that saw the program post an under .500 record (14-18) for just the second time in the past 17 seasons, the Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team rebounded with a stellar year in 2013 that saw berths to both the GNAC Championship and ECAC tournament.

GULLS STOP SAINTS IN ECAC QUARTERFINALS

BEVERLY, Mass.- The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women’s Volleyball Championship opened Wednesday evening with the third-seeded Gulls of Endicott College playing host to the sixth-seeded Saints of Emmanuel College. The Gulls advanced to the tournament semifinals with a 3-0 sweep of the Saints and will now face No. 2 Western New England University on Saturday. Emmanuel’s season ends with the Saints holding an impressive 23-14 overall record for the 2013 campaign.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM TO PLAY AT ENDICOTT IN ECAC TOURNAMENT

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Women’s Volleyball Team has earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Tournament. The Saints are slated to play at No. 3 Endicott College on Wednesday night, November 13, at 7:00 PM.

FOUR SAINTS HONORED ON ALL-GNAC WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL INCLUDING COACH & ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College women’s volleyball Head Coach Denitra Seals has been named the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year while freshman outside hitter Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.) has been named the GNAC Rookie of the Year, it was announced by the conference office. Chruscielski was also named to the First Team while her freshman middle hitter Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) and sophomore setter Shannon Dudley (Morro Bay, Calif.) were recognized on the Second Team.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN GNAC FINALS TO RIVIER, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. – Rivier University captured the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball championship Saturday afternoon at the Muldoon Gymnasium by defeating Emmanuel College , 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17). With the victory, the Raiders (26-8) earn the GNAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament while the Saints (23-13) will have to wait to see if they earn an at-large bid or receive an invitation to the ECAC Championship. This is the fifth GNAC Championship for the Raiders since 2003 and their second in three seasons.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL DOWNS JWU, 3-1, TO EARN GNAC TITLE BERTH

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team recorded a 3-1 (27-25, 28-26, 20-25, 25-17) victory over Johnson & Wales University Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference Semifinals action to earn a trip to the GNAC Finals on Saturday afternoon. The Saints, who improve to 23-12, will head to Nashua, N.H. to face the #1 seeded Rivier University Raiders at 1:00 PM while the loss ends the Wildcats season with an overall mark of 15-20.

COLFORD, CAREY & ATKINSON HONORED BY GNAC

BOSTON, Mass. – Three Emmanuel College student-athletes were recognized this week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in the weekly reports. Sophomore Sean Colford (Eddping, N.H.) was named the Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, freshman Maggie Carey (Swampscott, Mass.) was named the Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week and freshman Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) was named the Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week.

SAINTS POST 3-0 GNAC QUARTERFINAL WIN OVER RAMS

BOSTON, Mass. – The 2nd-seeded Emmanuel College Women’s Volleyball Team defeated 7th-seeded Suffolk University, 3-0, on Tuesday night in a cross-town rivalry marking the first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. This was Emmanuel’s 15th-consecutive GNAC Tournament appearance and the quarterfinal win came via set scores of 26-24, 25-10 and 25-16, boosting the Saints to 22-12 on the season. The loss dropped Suffolk to 16-14 on the season.

SAINTS WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON WITH 3-2 WIN AT ECSU

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Emmanuel College put together a five-set victory over the Eastern Connecticut State University Women’s Volleyball Team to close out the regular season at 21-12 overall. The 3-2 win by set scores of 25-16, 25-23, 18-25, 23-25 and 15-13 was a non-conference match played in ECSU’s Francis E. Geissler Gymnsium on Saturday afternoon.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL DROPS 3-0 DECISION TO SALVE REGINA

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-20) decision to Salve Regina University Thursday evening in non-conference action in the Jean Yawkey Center Gymnasium. With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 24-3 on the year while the loss drops the Saints to 20-12 overall.

A THIRD GNAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR FOR ATKINSON

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman Kaitlyn Atkinson was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on October 28, an honor she is receiving for the third time this season and for the second-consecutive week. Atkinson, a native of Brookline, New Hampshire, has used her stellar hitting and dominant blocking to lead the Saints Women’s Volleyball Team to a twenty-win season.

SAINTS NOTCH 20TH WIN IN GNAC TRI-MATCH SPLIT

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Women’s Volleyball Team hosted its final tri-match of the regular season, playing host to Rivier University and the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday afternoon in the Jean Yawkey Center. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match marked Emmanuel’s Dig Pink games for breast cancer awareness.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM ROLLS ON; SAINTS TOP SHARKS, 3-1

BOSTON – The Emmanuel College Women’s Volleyball Team headed across the street on Tuesday night for a Colleges of the Fenway (COF) showdown with Simmons College in the Holmes Sports Center. The Saints took care of the Sharks in four sets, 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19) to preserve their unbeaten mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. Emmanuel now stands at 19-10 on the season and 9-0 in conference play. The loss for Simmons dropped the Sharks to 8-22 overall and 6-3 in the GNAC.

ATKINSON CAPTURES SECOND ROOKIE OF THE WEEK NOD

BOSTON, Mass. – Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The freshman’s most recent honor came after leading the Emmanuel Women’s Volleyball Team to a 2-1 week, which included a pair of three-set wins in a conference tri-match in Northfield, Vermont last Saturday.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL STAYS PERFECT IN GNAC ACTION WITH TRI-MATCH SWEEP

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team continued its strong play in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Andrews Hall on the Norwich University Campus. Emmanuel posted 3-0 wins against Norwich and Saint Joseph’s, while the Monks won the final match of the day against Norwich by a score of 3-0. With the victories, EC improves to 18-10 overall and a perfec 8-0 in GNAC action.
