TENNIS TEAM POSTS 3RD-STRAIGHT 9-0 WIN
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Women’s Tennis Team cruised to its third-straight shutout win, defeating Lesley University, 9-0, on Monday night. The non-conference match was the final regular season contest for both teams. With the win, the Saints wrapped up the regular season at 10-6 overall.

Twelve different Emmanuel players combined to earn the 9 team points. Junior captain Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) defeated Hannah Phalen 6-4, 6-0 in first singles play. Freshman Daniela Tueme (South Easton, Mass.) played her first collegiate match in the No. 2 spot and bested Meghann Toomanjian 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Nicole Soucy (Bedford, N.H.) topped Emma True 6-3, 6-2 in third singles. Sophomore Kelsey Barrasso (Nahant, Mass.) extended her 2012 singles unbeaten streak to four matches, downing Molly Phelps, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Lexi Rogers (North Hampton, N.H.) earned her first singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Aleena Naqvi in the fifth spot. Junior Brittany Rothstein's (Tiverton, R.I.) got her first singles start of the season. Rothstein went to a third set tie-breaker, before she got the best of Carissa Iverson, 6-1, 5-7, 10-7, in sixth singles.
Emmanuel's three doubles victories all came via 8-1 scores. The Saints were led by Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Me.) and Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.), who knocked off the Lynx tandem of True and Phelps in top doubles. The Saints' pair of Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) and Katrina Gaddis (Wayland, Mass.) picked up their 6th doubles win of the season, defeating Phalen and Jillian Clarke 8-1 in second doubles. Freshman Carolina Santamaria (North Providence, R.I.) and senior Christine Cuddemi (Saugus, Mass.) remained undefeated during the regular season, taking care of Toomanijian and Naqvi in the third spot.
The Saints have earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. Emmanuel will host the 6th-seeded AMcats of Anna Maria College on Wednesday at 5:00 PM at the Winsor School Tennis Courts.
