WOMEN’S TENNIS DOWNS USJ ON SENIOR DAY, 9-0
The Emmanuel College women’s tennis team posted a dominant 9-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (CT) Thursday evening at the Winsor School Courts. Before the match, the Saints honored its two seniors in Christine Cuddemi (Saugus, Mass.) and Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.).
BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's tennis team posted a dominant 9-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (CT) Thursday evening at the Winsor School Courts. Before the match, the Saints honored its two seniors in Christine Cuddemi (Saugus, Mass.) and Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.). The two seniors helped EC improve to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action while the loss drops the Blue Jays to 2-10 overall and 1-6 in the GNAC.
Sophomore Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) and junior Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) captured their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches in straight sets while Reid was almost perfect in the No. 3 match vs. sophomore Lindsay Tracy (Manchester, Conn.), registering a 6-1, 6-0 win. Junior Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) was able to pick up the 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over sophomore Delina Andrews (Thomaston, Conn.) while sophomore Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 versus freshman Mallory Briggs (Seymour, Conn.) in the No. 5 singles match. Rounding out the singles action, EC sophomore Kelsey Barrasso (Nahant, Mass.) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles over April Loteczka (Ellington, Conn.).
In doubles action, Konecnik teamed up with freshman Katrina Gaddis (Wayland, Mass.) to notch an 8-5 win out of the No. 1 doubles slot. Freshmen Rachel Smith (Weymouth, Mass.) and Nicole Soucy (Bedford, N.H.) downed Tracy and Andrews, 8-0, in No. 2 doubles play while Cuddemi paired with freshman Carolina Santamaria (North Providence, R.I.) for an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Cuddemi, a three-year member of the team currently boasts an overall record of 9-1 including an 8-1 doubles record while Reid, a four-year member and starter has now compiled a total of 49 career victories.
The Saints return to the courts on Saturday, October 13 when they host Anna Maria College at 1:00 PM in another GNAC tilt while the Blue Jays host Western New England the same afternoon at 12:00 PM in West Hartford, Conn.
