TENNIS TEAM FALLS TO EMERSON, 6-3

WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Emerson College Women's Tennis Team outlasted the Emmanuel Saints on Saturday afternoon, 6-3, at the Victory Field Courts.  After an epic battle with neighboring Simmons College the night before, the exhausted Saints couldn't manage to get past the host Lions, falling to 6-6 on the year and 3-2 in conference action.  The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win set Emerson's record at 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Doubles looked to come down to the deciding point as Natalie Nicolas and Alicia Pellegrin struck first, taking an 8-1 win in the number two spot before Emmanuel evened it up with Jenny Konecnik and Katrina Gaddis answering with an 8-1 win of their own.  In the number one spot, it was Emerson's Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser who snagged an 8-3 win over Amanda Woznicki and Alex Hadlock, to remain unbeaten on the season at 9-0.

The Lions headed into singles play up 2-1.  Emerson's Savannah Mosser pushed her singles winning streak to 17 matches with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Woznicki in the second slot.  The Saints answered in the five spot with Jenni Hewes taking a 6-2, 6-0 win to keep it close.

Emerson clinched the match with the next two singles wins, as Pellegrin won 6-3, 6-1 over Jenna Reid at No. 3 and Lacey Russell closed it out with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hadlock at No. 1 for the Lions' fifth and deciding point.

Emmanuel's Jenny Konecik earned her second win of the day, adding the final point for the Saints with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Natalie Nicholas in the No. 4 position.  Jana Winfield wrapped things up for the Lions with their 6^th point of the day, coming in a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory over Daniela Tueme at No. 6 singles.

The Lions will travel to Anna Maria College for a 3:00 PM GNAC match on Monday.  The Saints will host the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Monday at 3:30 PM.
