SAEF NAMED GNAC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR; EARNS ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS WITH RICE
BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College sophomore Emily Saef (Moultonborough, N.H.) has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Wen's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year and joins junior Kylie Rice (Bethlehem, Conn.) on the GNAC All-Conference Team, it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Junior Allison Hutchings (Billerica, Mass.) was the Emmanuel representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Saef becomes the program's first GNAC Rookie of the Year following a standout sophomore campaign in which she finished the year with 54 points on 43 goals and 11 assists to rank 14th in the GNAC in goals and 16th in points. Saef scored in the first 15 games of the season and recorded multiple point games in 13 of 16 contests on the year. The added 36 draw control wins, 34 groundballs and 16 caused turnovers for EC to also earn a spot on the GNAC All-Conference Third Team.
Saef becomes the fourth major award winner in Emmanuel Women's Lacrosse program history, joining Head Coach Liz Goddard (2014 GNAC Coach of the Year), Sarah Higgins (2016 Offensive Player of the Year), and Savannah Lundwall (2017 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year) with the major recognition.
Rice earns GNAC Third Team honors after a stellar offensive campaign for the Saints that ended with 71 total points to rank fourth-highest in a single-season at Emmanuel. The Bethlehem, Conn. native scored 44 goals to rank fifth all-time at Emmanuel and tied for 12th in the GNAC this year. She scored in 15 of 16 games this season including 2+ goals in 11 contests. Rice added 24 groundballs, 19 draw control wins and 14 caused turnovers for the Saints.
Over her career, Rice appeared in 44 games and registered 134 points on 89 goals and 45 assists to rank fourth all-time in goals, fifth all-time in points and tied for fifth all-time in assists. Rice enters her senior campaign with 99 career draw control wins, 53 groundballs and 37 caused turnovers.
The Saints wrapped the 2019 season with an overall record of 7-9 and 5-6 in GNAC play to earn the No. 7 seed in the GNAC tournament field. Emmanuel fell to No. 2 Regis College in the GNAC Quarterfinals, 13-5, and will graduate three members from the 2019 roster.
