NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team posted an 11-9 win over host Norwich University on Saturday. The Cadets (6-7, 2-5 GNAC) dropped their third game in the last four contests while Emmanuel moves to 5-8 overall (4-3 GNAC).
Junior Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, Md.) and classmate Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) each potted two goals while Segreti added an assist for three points (2-1=3). Seven additional Norwich players recorded at least one point offensively – freshman Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.) led the Cadets defensively with eight ground balls.
McGrath slowed the Saints roll in the first 1:53 of the contest, halving the Norwich deficit to 2-1. Sophomore Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) and senior Kasey Jacobs (Killingworth, Conn.) added goals, keeping Emmanuel to only a two goals lead, but the Saints potted four goals down the stretch in the first half to capture a 9-3 lead.
Segreti struck first in the second half, but the Saints scored two of the game's next three goals to create an 11-5 advantage with 19:23 left in regulation time. The Cadets rattled off the game's final four goals, but the early first half deficit was too much to overcome.
Freshman Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) drew the loss, making eight saves on 19 shots. Emmanuel's Kiley Gallant made her first collegiate appearance in goal for the Saints, earning the victory with 10 saves on 19 shots against.
Norwich held advantages in shots taken (33-to-28), ground balls (28-to-18) and successful clears (14-to-13), but received five of the game's six yellow cards, necessitating the team to play down a player for large chunks of the game. Emmanuel's Savannah Lundwall scored seven of her team's 11 goals, winning six draws to lead her team.
The Cadets return to action Wednesday, Apr. 26, hosting Simmons at 7 p.m. in the regular season home finale at Sabine Field.
