BOSTON, Mass. – Following a national search, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hire of Dan Roberts as the Head Men's Soccer Coach. Roberts becomes just the third head coach in the program's 14-year history and takes over the role from Colin Goin who stepped down earlier this year after serving in the position for seven seasons.
Emmanuel College Director of Athletics and Recreation Alexis Mastronardi would like to thank all of those who participated in the interview process, sincerely thanking all those for their time during the on-campus interviews.
Roberts brings to Emmanuel a wealth of Division III experience as both a coach and a former student-athlete. Most recently, Roberts was the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at University of Massachusetts Boston, where he helped lead the Beacons to a Little East Conference Championship and to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2015. Prior to the 2015 season at UMass Boston, Roberts was the Assistant Coach at COF rival Wentworth Institute of Technology for two years.
"I'm extremely excited to join Emmanuel College as the head men's soccer coach," said Roberts. "After going through the hiring process with Alexis and other members of the Emmanuel staff, I'm eager to get started. The Saints program has so much potential for success and I'm looking forward to being a part of it."
As a collegiate player, Roberts was a four-year member and two-time team captain of the Bridgewater State University Men's Soccer Team. He earned All-MASCAC honors three years in a row and represented the men's soccer team on BSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years.
Roberts also has a great deal of club coaching experience and is currently affiliated with the FC Boston Bolts program. He has prior experience as the Training Director for the Commonwealth Football Coach and as an Assistant Coach at Canton High School. Roberts works full-time as a teacher in the Braintree Public Schools and resides in Quincy, MA.
"I am very excited for the future of our program under the direction of Coach Roberts," said Mastronardi. "I believe his personality combined with his Division III playing and coaching background make him a great fit for our institution."
Roberts and the Saints open the 2016 season on September 1 with a road contest vs. Daniel Webster College.
