MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS TO KEAN IN 2018 OPENER

UNION, N.J. (3/3/18)- Propelled by a nine-goal second half, the Kean University men's lacrosse team came away with a 12-5 victory over Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Roberto and Cole Blackley both tallied hat-tricks as the Cougars improved to 2-0 overall. Charlie Moran scored two goals for the Saints who fall to 0-1 overall in their season opener.
"It was nice to get the win against them today since they upset us last season in Boston", said Head Coach Shelley Sheiner.l
After opening the game with three unanswered goals, the Saints responded with three unanswered of their own to even the contest at 3-3 with less than seven minutes remaining in the third.
EC got a pair of goals from senior Charlie Moran and a score from junior Matt Katon.
The Cougars made their move by netting six unanswered, including three from Roberto in the third and two from Blackley in the fourth, as Kean broke the game wide open with a 12-3 lead midway through the final quarter.
The Cougars took 43 shots and racked up 43 groundballs in the process. Andrew Yenesel notched two goals and six groundballs, while Tom Kelly scooped up six groundballs and tallied a goal.
Matt Tanis and Kyle Ryder scored their first career goals as Kean opened the season 2-0 for the first time since 2016.
"When we get rolling we can be a pretty dangerous team, but we still need to put a complete game together", said Sheiner.
EC senior goalie Austin Rosenberg made 14 saves in his 2018 debut.
Coach Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action in Doylestown, Pa. on Wednesday, Mar. 7th, against the Aggies of Delaware Valley University at 7:00 p.m. The Saints return to action on Monday when they play Misericordia down in Clearwater, Fla. at 7:00 p.m.
