GOLF FINISHES 8TH AT GNAC CHAMPIONSHIP

SUTTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College men's golf team rounded out the 2018 Fall season competing at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday and Sunday at Blackstone National Golf Club. The Saints finished eighth overall in the field with a two-day total of 715.

Johnson & Wales took home the GNAC Championship for the second consecutive year, winning by 13 strokes for their first back-to-back titles since the 2008 and 2009 seasons. The Wildcats were led by second place finisher Claudio Soukamneuth, who shot a round two 76 to finish at 152 overall. Alex Parente shot a 78 to finish in fourth with a two-day total of 155, while Stephen Patch and Ryan Malloy each finished tied for fifth with a two day score of 157.

Tom Sheran of UMass Dartmouth took home the individual crown on Sunday, shooting a one-over 73 and finish with a two-day total of 145 to win by seven strokes. Sheran led the Corsairs to a second place finish overall, as he was followed by Jack McDonald, who carded an 80 for a weekend total of 162, and Jackson Mitchell, who carded a 78 to finish with a weekend total of 163.

Worcester State freshman Brodie Coughlin (North Brookfield, Mass.) carded a second round 80 to finish 10th overall for host Worcester State University who finished fifth at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships Sunday at Blackstone National Golf Club. The combined 159 from Coughlin was good enough for the freshman to be named the GNAC Rookie of the Year as the top first-year finisher at the event. Junior Mike Manning (Bridgewater, Mass.) was the second Lancer finisher with a score of 82 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 163. Classmate Connor Anderson (Raynham, Mass.) finished a shot higher than Manning with an 83 on Sunday for a two-day total of 165. Sophomore Mark Clemente (Holden, Mass.) and freshman Jake Poitras (Harwich, Mass.) each finished with two-day totals of 171, with an 84 and a 92 respectively.

Southern Maine won a tight race for third place, narrowly edging out fourth place Suffolk and fifth place Worcester State with a score of 643. The Huskies were led by Tristan Dundas, who finished third overall individually with a two-day total of 154 after a Sunday 76. Greg Kalagias, Shawn McKinnon, and Ryan Dee all shot two-day scores of 164 to lift the Huskies into third.

Suffolk University finished just three shots behind the Huskies with a 646 to finish in fourth place. Leading the Rams was Owen Boggini, who was part of the five-way tie for fifth, shooting a 157 on the weekend after a 78 on Sunday. Andrew Harper shot an 83 on Sunday to finish in 11th place overall with a score of 161.

Behind the Lancers in sixth place was Saint Joseph's (Me.) with a score of 661. They were led by Cameron Letourneau's 157 after turning in a 77 on Sunday. Adam Batchelder was the second Monk finisher with a weekend score of 164.

Rhode Island College finished the tournament in seventh place as they turned in a score of 670 for the weekend. Tyler Bosclair led the Anchormen as part of the log jam at 157 to round out the GNAC All-Conference team. Michael Caparco tied for 12th at 162 to rank second for Rhode Island College.

The Saints of Emmanuel College finished in eighth place on the weekend, recorded a total of 715. Jack Scavone led the Saints with a score of 176, while David Byrne, Anthony Springthorpe, and Daniel Holloran all shot scores of 86 on Sunday.

Rounding out the field was Albertus Magnus College, which shot an 801 on the weekend. The Falcons were led by Brandon Fowler, who shot a 190.

The Saints cap the 2018 season having played in seven events.
