BOSTON, Mass. –The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced that Emmanuel's senior captain Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) is the conference's men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 19th. Everson averaged an impressive line of 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and 1.5 blocks in the Saints' two games last week.
Everson shot 51.5% from the floor (17-33) and 75% from the line (9-12) for the week. His cumulative total of 43 points over the two games came in just 59 minutes of work. Everson netted 16 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists in the Saints' Tuesday night loss at Johnson & Wales. He then scored a career-high 27 points, hitting 11 of his 18 shots, on Thursday night in the Saints' three-point win at Suffolk, leading Emmanuel to its fourth GNAC win of the season.
Everson is having a standout senior season, which has included bettering his career-high in scoring twice already this year. He notched a milestone game on January 5th in Emmanuel's win over Suffolk University, when he scored his 1,000th career point and grabbed his 500th career rebound in the same game! Everson is one of just five players in Emmanuel program history to eclipse both of these milestones.
This is the first GNAC Player of the Week nod for Emmanuel's two-time men's basketball Most Valuable Player. Everson and the Saints will return to the court this Thursday night, January 24th, when Emmanuel hosts the Monks of Saint Joseph's College in a 7:00 PM start.
