VERCRUYSSE & CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS EARN USTFCCCA ACADEMIC HONOR
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its 2018 National Academic Awards. Emmanuel College sophomore Pearl Vercruysse (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) was recognized on the individuals list while both the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country programs were honored on the Team list.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its 2018 National Academic Awards. Emmanuel College sophomore Pearl Vercruysse (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) was recognized on the individuals list while both the Men's & Women's Cross Country programs were honored on the Team list.
The women's squad posted an overall GPA of 3.42 during their GNAC Championship season last fall while the men finished with a 3.19 team GPA. For a team to be eligible for the Team Academic Award, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Overall this year, 393 teams were honored by the USTFCCCA, including 215 women's and 178 men's teams.
There were 682 student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with women accounting for 56 percent of that total (382). In order to qualify for this honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Vercruysse finished 67th overall at the New England Championship meet in a field of over 400 runners. Majoring in Psychology, she earned All-GNAC Second Team honors in 2017 before earning First Team honors in 2018. She was one of just three GNAC runners honored this year by the USTFCCCA.
