INDOOR TRACK CLOSES IN ON NATIONAL TIMES WITH NEW SCHOOL RECORDS
The Emmanuel College indoor track & field team traveled to Boston University on Friday, January 26th and University of Southern Maine for the USM Open on Saturday, January 27th, where the women were able to place ten athletes within the top eight among the events, along with eight athletes from the men’s team.

THE LEAD: The Emmanuel College indoor track & field team traveled to Boston University on Friday, January 26th and University of Southern Maine for the USM Open on Saturday, January 27th, where the women were able to place ten athletes within the top eight among the events, along with eight athletes from the men's team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chelsea Smith (Manchester, Conn.) recorded a first place finish in the 55 meter race, finishing in 7.45, which shattered the previous school record at USM, and also finished in fifteenth place in the 200 meter race (25.40) at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic.
- Pearl Vercruysse (Chilmark, Mass.) recorded a forty-seventh place finish in the mile (5:08.66) at the Terrier Classic, which broke her own school record and finished first at USM in the 800 meter (2:26.17).
- Cara Welsh (Shrewsbury, Mass). and Shannon Donahue (Manchester, N.H.) owned two of the top eight places in the shot put event at the USM Open.
- The Saints controlled the top eight of the men's shot put event, holding four of the top eight places from throwers Constantino Politis (Saugus, Mass.), Trevor McCarthy (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Amiel Howell (Boston, Mass.), and Christopher Rosario (Weymouth, Mass.).
- Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.) claimed the fourth place finish in the men's 55 meter race, recording a time of 6.90.
- Freshman Trevor Hajj (East Longmeadow, Mass.) took the top spot in the 600 meter final with a time of 1:30.20.
OF NOTE
- Smith's time from this week's meet at Boston University has her currently ranked eighth in the country, second in New England for her time in the 200m.
- Vercruysee's currently ranks forty-third nationally in the mile after this weekend's personal and school record race at the BU Terrier Classic.

- The Saints head back on the road Saturday, February 3rd when they travel to Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. for the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational.
