BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Athletics Department unveiled a new Saints Spirit Bus in a small ceremony on campus on Friday afernoon. The bus, included for free in a three-year contract with Bloom Bus Company, features 23 student-athletes on the sides and back of the bus.
Students crowded along the curb of the parking lot next to the quad on Friday afternoon as the bus pulled around the Jean Yawkey Center to be viewed for the first time. The Athletics Department passed out temporary EC tattoos, students wearing various forms of Superfans gear took photos in front of the bus, and Halo roamed the area posing for shots of his own.
Midway through the ceremony, Father John read a prayer and blessed the bus, wishing all Saints safe travels in the future trips on the bus.
Director of Athletics and Recreation Alexis Mastronardi spoke to the crowd to thank them for attending and announced that the Women's Soccer team would be taking the first trip on the bus for their game at the University of St. Joseph's (Conn.).
"Over the past summer, Associate Athletic Director Andy Yosinoff worked tirelessly to find a new bus company to engage in a partnership with our Athletic Department," said Mastronardi. "As part of the negotiations, Bloom agreed to 'wrap' a bus for our athletic teams to use for their transportation to away contest."
The bus was designed by members of the Athletics Department and the Marketing & Communications Department and will be used by all athletic teams, as well as other student and alumni groups depending on availability. A group of students will be taking the bus to the 9/11 Memorial in New York City for a trip on November 11.
